IoT (Internet of Things)

Short Definition
A network of interconnected physical devices, such as smart appliances and wearables, that communicate over the internet to collect and exchange data, allowing for automation and smart functionality.
Relevance
IoT connects everyday objects to the internet, making automation easier, but it also brings potential privacy risks if data is not properly secured. For accessibility, IoT can allow users with disabilities to control devices using voice commands or other assistive technologies, improving independence. From a harm reduction standpoint, safeguarding the data generated by IoT devices is crucial to avoid breaches and unauthorized access. Theoretical discussions on IoT often focus on ensuring that this interconnectedness doesn’t compromise data ownership and user safety.
