Automation is when machines or computers do tasks without people controlling them all the time. Even though the machines work on their own, people design and set them up.

Automation has the potential to displace vulnerable workers, worsening inequality. Leadership from those with lived experience of exploitation and labor inequities can ensure automation is implemented in ways that benefit all, particularly by creating opportunities for historically marginalized workers and avoiding further displacement.
