Game art is decidedly not video games. With different approaches on sharing narratives and feelings, Shihab Mian, Heckhole Studio’s 2025 Emerging Artist in Residence, explores how we can use game art to flesh out artistic expression with the added layer of audience interaction. How do artists need to pare down or rethink game art ideas in order to create them as art pieces made for the gallery setting? In this artist talk, Mian breaks down the process of going from an idea for a video game, reducing the scope to fit within a short roadmap, and working toward the intention of exhibiting as a game art piece in a professional gallery setting.
On April 3 – 4, Could You Understand Me Leaving? will be installed in the InterAccess gallery.
The Heckhole Studio 2025 residency opportunity has been made possible by the Government of Canada and IMAA’s Digital Skills for Youth program.
