Synthetic Worlds: Making Images & Video with Generative AI
In-person at InterAccess | Register here
Registration Fee: $150 Member | $250 Non-Member, spots are limited
Synthetic Worlds is for traditional artists of all varieties (digital, photographers, filmmakers, musicians, painters, etc.) to explore the evolving and contentious world of generative AI with all its creative possibilities and ethical messes.
Over the span of the weekend, participants will:
- Break down the realities of problematic training material, data centre water usage, and exploitative power dynamics in big tech.
- Cover a range of AI artists working today discovering the themes they're addressing in their work and the workflows they're using.
- Learn about online consumer tools for generative images, video, and audio.
- Use local AI workflows to develop a synthetic world of our own that reflects our learnings including StreamDiffusion with TouchDesigner and Stable Diffusion with ComfyUI.
Participants can be absolute beginners. Laptop requirements include 8GB+ VRAM Nvidia GPU or Mac equivalent, 16GB system RAM, and 50GB+ of free space in SSD storage. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about these specs or if you need access to a computer for the workshop.
In addition to skills learned during each weekend course, students will also:
- Receive a complimentary 1 month studio membership to InterAccess, including tool training and makerspace facilities
- Showcase their work in the Spring Showcase May 23rd & 24th, 2026
Through these initiatives, we aim to give students further opportunities to build their new media arts practice and engage with Toronto's creative communities.
