DEEP SLEEP speculates on possible futures through interactive experiences in VR and experimental game spaces.
In the game, at the heels of environmental collapse on earth, participants perform as their future selves. As participants proceed through the game, they are presented with details of the only two options for possible futures left for humanity, to return to earth and rebuild or start over on another planet—all after an extended period of hibernation, waiting for the earth to regenerate itself and habitable planets to be identified.
Which will you choose? To stay or to go?
While you await the journey to your preferred future, prepare for DEEP SLEEP.
DEEP SLEEP will be available for you to experience at Inter/Access from January 19 to February 4. An event launch will be happening on Wednesday January 28 as part of InterAccess’ Open Studio where you can experience the work and meet the creator.
About the Artist
Adrienne Matheuszik is a mixed Jamaican & settler-canadian interdisciplinary artist in Toronto. Adrienne has had unsupervised access to the internet since she was nine years old. She uses computers to make art — video, physical computing, creative coding & 3D design — which usually result in interactive installations, augmented and virtual reality, short film and video, and game art. Adrienne’s work explores ideas of representation & identity online and IRL. She is interested in speculative futures and using sci-fi to examine the possibility of the post-colonial.
Adrienne has an MFA from OCAD University from the Interdisciplinary Masters of Art Media and Design Graduate program (2019), and a BFA from University of Ottawa with a specialisation in New Media Art (2014).
