Scoring the City: Geo-located soundwalks with Echoes.xyz

In-person at InterAccess - Register here

Registration Fee: $30 Member | $50 Non-Member

This workshop will introduce participants to Echoes.xyz, an online platform which allows users to create immersive geo-located soundwalks. Participants will be guided through the Echoes editor, explore its features, and build their own sound walk.

Combining a video-game audio engine with a real-world GPS, Echoes has a simple visual editor with which users can add audio files to a geographic location and determine the rules for audio playback, such as tempo-synced stems, decision trees, and conditional playback. On the other end, users may physically walk through the location with a mobile device and experience the soundwalk. This facilitates a sort of "score" for a geographic location, which can be powerful for musical experiences, historical or cultural narration for a given location, and more.

Workshop Requirements

Participants should bring:

  • Laptop
  • Mobile phone/device
  • Headphones
