M. Murphy is a Red River Métis scholar from Winnipeg whose work bridges technoscience studies and environmental justice. They are Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Science and Technology Studies and Environmental Data Justice at the University of Toronto, jointly appointed in the School of Environment, and co-direct the Technoscience Research Unit and the Indigenous Environmental Data Justice Lab. Their research examines how pollution, chemicals, colonialism, data, and altered life intersect in the Great Lakes region. A lead PI at the Acceleration Consortium, Murphy directs a lab on Indigenous science and ethical substance. They are the author of Sick Building Syndrome and the Politics of Uncertainty, Seizing the Means of Reproduction, The Economization of Life, and the forthcoming Fear of a Dead White Planet (all Duke University Press).
