Legacy Russell

About
Legacy Russell is a curator, writer, and New York City native who serves as Executive Director and Chief Curator of The Kitchen. Formerly Associate Curator of Exhibitions at The Studio Museum in Harlem, Russell’s work focuses on gender, performance, digital culture, and new media ritual. She is the author of Glitch Feminism: A Manifesto (2020) and BLACK MEME (2024). Her curatorial projects span major institutions including The Kitchen, ICA LA, Hauser & Wirth, MoMA, and MoMA PS1. A recipient of the Thoma Foundation Arts Writing Award in Digital Art, Creative Capital Award, and fellowships with Rauschenberg, Pompeii Commitment Digital, the Center for Curatorial Leadership, and the Lunder Institute, Russell is recognized internationally for advancing experimental and socially engaged art practices.
