Grunt Gallery

About
grunt gallery, founded in 1984 and located on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations (Vancouver, Canada), is one of the region’s longest-standing artist-run centres. Established by a collective of eight artists, grunt has since become a vital venue for innovative and provocative contemporary art, with a strong focus on Indigenous, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA2S+ practices. From its early collaborations in the 1990s with Indigenous art communities, grunt has sustained deep relationships through exhibitions, residencies, and public programming, shaping its identity as a hub for diverse perspectives and creative innovation. Committed to intersectionality, decolonization, and accessibility—long before these terms gained prominence—the gallery continues to evolve through anti-oppression frameworks while fostering local, national, and international connections.
