About
Christina Battle is a Black Canadian artist based in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton), working within the transitional landscape where prairie meets forest. Her practice critically examines disaster as an entangled process—social, environmental, cultural, political, and economic—asking how it is caused, how it manifests, and how communities respond. Looking to plant systems and online networks as models for resilience, she develops collaborative, experimental, and sometimes deliberately failed gestures that reveal alternative ways of imagining collective survival. Rooted in both environmental science and visual culture, Battle’s work is informed by her PhD research on community responses to disaster and continues to unfold across exhibitions and curatorial projects nationally and internationally.
