Alice Sheppard

About
Alice Sheppard is a Bessie-award winning choreographer, dancer, and speaker whose work challenges conventional understandings of disabled bodies. She trained in ballet and modern dance with Kitty Lunn, debuted with Infinity Dance Theater, and then joined AXIS Dance Company where she toured and taught in their outreach programs. As an independent artist she has performed with Ballet Cymru, GDance, Marc Brew Company (UK), and Full Radius Dance, Marjani Forté, MBDance, Infinity Dance Theater, and Steve Paxton (US). Her choreography has been commissioned by Full Radius Dance, CRIPSiE, and MOMENTA. Sheppard’s work engages disability arts, culture, history, and the intersections of disability, gender, and race; her writing has appeared in The New York Times and academic journals. She is a 2020 Disability Futures Fellow.
