OVERVIEW

The Web Weavers Workshop is an extended project-based opportunity for a selected group of artists to develop completed web productions. The group will work with more experienced artists to create individual websites within a communal framework. Classes in the nitty gritty technical issues will be interspersed with conceptual huddles to guide participants towards finished works. The progress of the group will be publicly represented as a growing website. This online space will also facilitate communication among the group and provide some translucency to the process of developing web based art.

  • seed these skills widely among artistic communities

DESCRIPTION

To set the stage for the project's web presence, the accepted proposals will be posted online before the group meets. Web-based forums will be provided with a public invitiation to discuss the proposals. These forums will also facilitate the group's interaction in between face to face times.

The actual workshop will begin with meetings of all participants to develop an agreeable strategy for the project. A lead artist will help get everybody acquainted with the skills and artistic interests of each other. As a theme evolves a project structure will be established. The process of group interaction will be supported by online discussion conferences and technical resources on the project web site.

During the summer, artists will work individually and collectively at InterAccess. The lead artist will consult with the artists to ensure proper support and to help orchestrate the group. Technical lessons and consultation will be provided by the project support crew.

In the fall of 1997, an exhibition of the Web Weavers work will be held on the project website. An opening party and several artist presentations will provide opportunities for discussion and commentary by the artistic community and the public at large.
