On Monday of this week, we thought we’d do some experimental baking. The experimental filmmaker was a bit hesitant but I had been craving cake all week (note: yogurt is not cake or a cake substitute) and I wanted to try the recipe below. We didn’t have the right shaped pan but baked it for an hour and thought it was fine. We came back into the kitchen 20 minutes later and it deflated a little. It still tasted great though, even if it was a semi fail cake.
So I decided this chocolate monster could not stay in my house any longer, so I brought the cake to InterAccess because we were installing the Emerging Artist’s show (opens tomorrow!! Friday!!) . The cake went over really well!! Even though Denise made the recipe and it won her first price at the county fair, here at IA we deem it “Installation Cake.”

This isn't what it looked like, but this is another baking creation ala InterAccess

We’re very excited to present our 9th Annual Emerging Artists Exhibition, curated by our curatorial intern, Jennifer Chan. Please join us this Friday for the opening reception at 7PM.

DORKBOT: BRUCE ELDER AND LORNA BAUER
Thursday July 16, 7PM
Dorkbot presents “Available Light: Bruce Elder and Lorna Bauer”
Please join us Thursday July 16th 2008 at 7pm for an open discussion with filmmaker R. Bruce Elder and artist Lorna Bauer.
R. Bruce Elder has been described as one of Canada’s foremost experimental filmmakers. His signature ‘rough handling’ technique creates stunning imagery, and he considers himself “more like a catalyst of artistic creation rather than a deliberate creator” (artandculture.com). His career spans thirty years. Emerging artist Lorna Bauer’s video work creates constructed spaces that present a transformational process with illusionary qualities. “What Bauer gives us here is a simple rehearsal of our fascination with phenomena movement – whether slight or violent-light, rupture and disintegration, and the cycles of return – light to dark, dark to light beginning and ending” (Ian Carr-Harris). Both speakers will take turns separately introducing their practice on a technical and theoretical level, and continue to involve the audience in discussion with open questions, and in a conversational matter. Free to the public and seating is on a first come-first serve basis.
Dorkbot-Toronto is always free and open to the public. For more information, email dorkbottoronto@dorkbot.org
