last updated April 5, 2007 Between 1996 and 2001, several projects were done under the auspices of the Art & Robotics Group, a collective of about thirty artists in Toronto, Canada. Those projects are documented in these pages. The ARG-list mailing list is still active, and now has over 150 members from all over the world. It's an excellent place to discuss art and its relationship with electronics, kinetics, and related subjects. Although there are no new ARG projects, the foundation laid by the group's members continues. Joining the ARG-list mailing list is a good way to meet people and share information. You can also browse the website of InterAccess, the main sponsor of ARG, for more information about their projects and programme.
ARG Past Events and Projects Archive: In 1997, the SpaceProbe project brought together a group of about twenty artists for a year-long series of weekly workshops and seminars on interactive art in physical space, beyond "point-and-click", focussing on the use of electronic sensors, actuators, and microprocessor systems. It culminated in the production and exhibition of a dozen new installation works. Visit the SpaceProbe page for more info, and check out the show's poster, and on-line Catalogue with photos. Extensive documentation of the SpaceProbe meetings of 1997/98 can be found in the ARGon Newsletter archive. the XXX ARTlab was a work-in-progress show put on by ARG in late 1997, as a precursor to the SpaceProbe show. You can see photographs of the artists and their work. SenseBus was ARG's second group project, implementing a networked sensory environment for sculpture and installation, and collaboratively creating a single unified artwork by members of the Art & Robotics Group. See the SenseBus page for more information. Tactile Video ...ephemeral visions - 30 apparitions per second - trying to get in touch... can interactive video cross over from cyberspace into material reality? Find out in this exploration of interactive video in physical contexts - sculpture, installation, and performance. More info on the T.V. page. |
