Welcome to the Art & Robotics Group website. Several projects were done under the auspices of the Art & Robotics Group, a collective of about thirty Toronto artists, between 1996 and 2001. Those projects are documented in these pages. The ARG-list mailing list is still active, and now has over 150 members from all over the world. It's an excellent place to discuss art and its relationship with electronics, kinetics, and related subjects. Although there are no new ARG projects, the foundation laid by the group's members continues. Joining the ARG-list mailing list is a good way to meet people and share information. There is a lot of activity in this field, in Toronto and particularly at InterAccess, the main sponsor of ARG. InterAccess now has a well-equipped electronics lab with technical support. You can browse the InterAccess website for more information about their projects and programme. ARG held regular weekly meetings on Tuesday nights. Our projects included workshops, seminars, artist talks, exhibitions, and more. One of the main goals of ARGwhich still carries on is knowledge-sharing. We have put together some general reference materials which you can add to. Please feel free to browse these pages, and to join in. ARG was founded by Jeff Mann in 1996, and was generously sponsored by InterAccess, a non-profit Electronic Media Arts Centre. ARG has been supported by InterAccess, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the ARG participants. Web site design and CGI programming by Jeff Mann. "SenseBus" project pages design by Mike Steventon. Free software provided by Earl Hood (MHonArc e-mail to web gateway), Brent Chapman (Majordomo mailing list server), Larry Wall (PERL), Bernard Sowa and Matt Wright (WWWBoard and portions of link-add script) TarmSaft Font Factory and others. |
