Sounds like a very interesting project and we sure would like to see AID being used in it but with your time line and the high stakes of a conference presentation I wouldn't suggest that you rely on AID volunteers for your tech support. The AID firmware code base is not complicated but if you want to rewrite the firmware substatially you should obtain the services of a PIC programmer for this project. As others have stated AID is developed to "AID Level One" which means it is designed to be connected to a host PC via the serial port (ie. tethered). Is it undesirable for your project to have the AID boards connected to a PC via a serial connection? This could even be done wirelessly relatively easily and cheaply and means you can to all the algorithm manipulation programming on the PC. Speed might be an issue with that many sensors though.
