I have been looking at server side software that provides an number of back end services as a package. These are generally know as "Content Management Systems". The software would help us in: * Controlling access to functionality and data * Managing content * Managing processes Some services that would be useful to AID include: Services: Content creation Content management Publishing Presentation Bulletin Board message systems Software and documentation version control Discussion forums File repository Sub Sites Contact us information Self help system Dynamic tables Link management Usage statistics and audit trail User and group-based security Image management News and announcement Features: Free/Open - GPL Separation of content and presentation Multi-user authoring Single-sourcing (content re-use) Metadata creation Powerful linking Non-technical authoring Ease of use & efficiency Integration with external systems Reporting Stylesheets Page templates Extensibility - Modularity Support for multiple formats Usage statistics Accessibility Limited client-side functionality requirements Speed Valid HTML Effective navigation Metadata Concerns Skills required I have done some research into the many options available and would encourage others to contribute to this discussion. I will post my findings shortly.
