Minutes
AID Group Meeting Sunday November 10, 2002
Held at: InterAccess, 401 Richmond St. W. Suite 444, Toronto, Canada.
Meeting commenced at 1:00 PM EST

Ben Bogart held an Intro to C Programming workshop. We covered the
following topics: variable types, syntax, loops, and if statements.
We wrote and compiled some basic programs (using gcc on Michelle's
brother's server). Now we are anxious to really get into with C for
the PIC! Thanks to Ben for doing this workshop.

We then decided that it would be great to test compiling C code to
assembler within our Hi-Tech C compiler, open it in MPLab, get it to
simulate the code as though it is on the PIC. We successfully
compiled led.c sample code from the Hi-Tech C compiler to assembly
code. We then imported that into a project in MPLab, and stepped
through it in the simulator. This means we will be able to debug
with more efficiency.

Jessica has offered to lead us through a workshop on how to operate
the simulator in MPLab.

We were really excited by the amount and level of discussion on the
mailing list this week. Many people responded to Jessica's post that
explained our 8-bit Bus Read/Write Control Scheme. We determined
that we need both descriptions, both Jessica's and Rob's, because
there are different levels of knowledge required for different levels
of AID. What Rob has written is very useful for us as developers,
thanks to both Rob and Jessica for their input!

Stephan and Mike used a tool (that costs nothing to download) called
Macintosh Programmer's Workshop
(http://developer.apple.com/tools/mpw-tools/) to write a basic
program. It is a tool that Mac users can use to practice the C
techniques that Ben taught today.

Jerry and Michelle updated the website with the latest versions of
the peripheral card schematics. Please check them out!

Adjournment: 5:15 PM

Next Meeting: Sunday, November 17, 2002, at 1 PM EST.
